the world is halved, subterranian and surface. the kingdom above, Esteirun, is expansive and ruled by a single royal family. it is a country of natural beauty, stellar worship, and magic. the current regime values law and order, and has reached the xenith of its influence.
The kingdom below, The UnderDark, is a series of tunnels, caverns, and underground lakes ruled by multiple kingship clans. It is a society of fermenting earth, glowing fungi, and alchemy. The largest clan in the city of Lumenles values wealth, power, trade, and believes itself to be the only kingdom in charge of all lands both above and below.
evadne :
The second daughter of the Elfin kingdom of Esteirun, Evadne na Torenfell, beh Ventralissa Lelitha I, Princess of the Great Citadel and Heiress Second to the Lands of Light is a brat. She has had all things provided to her that were necessary, but this included traditional wilderness training, fighting techniques, and astronomy. She doesn't have an aptitude for magic naturally, but knows her way around both wand and scroll.
Her red hair is darkest close to her head and lightens to almost a golden color at the ends. Her eyes are a dark amethyst and her long ears redden deeply when she is embarrassed. While she is entitled, she is also very practical in a naive kind of way. She will let nothing get in the way of her goal.
Even though her Uncle would assume the throne before she would, he is without heirs and therefore her marriageable status has become a bargaining chip for the kingdom. The night her betrothal was announced (much to her own surprise) she determined she would escape on her own to see the world before being tied to her kingdom and the stranger that was picked for her.
She doesn't get far before a fateful meeting in the Underdark with the goblins that reside there...
krax :
19th son of the underelf king, krax is a prince of a long line of proud rulers of the underdark. chances are pathetically slim that he will ever find himself as next in line for the throne, but he has little ambition to be king, as his father is rather infamously dissatisfied with everything and the crown did nothing to change that. krax has always been happy to be a 'prince' even though the wealth and prestige is spread so thin that there is hardly a distinction between most of the royal family and everyone else.
krax's official royal title includes the name of all 18 of his older brothers
for this reason, krax knows all of their names
for this same reason, krax has less of a grasp on the names of his younger siblings and his sisters, but he knows a big chunk!
each son of the underdark king is entitled to one boon; the use of this boon is hoarded rather fanatically by each child and is usually only used in dire circumstances (the forgiveness of crimes is a major one)
the current ruler, King Boxter, has ruled for only a few decades, compared to his father who ruled for over 3 centuries and was miserable the entire time
the underdark is only partially connected by caves; because of this, there are more underdark kingdoms that overlight kingdoms
krax's family lives in one of the largest and most productive underdark kingdoms, which boasts a massive city undetectable from the surface
the city is called lumenles, and it is more densely populated than any overlight city
the citizens of lumenles by and large go their entire lives without seeing the sun; the sun is considered to be dangerous, evil, and ugly. most underelves are allergic to sunlight if they are ever unfortunate enough to see it
krax himself has only seen the night sky and on very few occasions. he is considered a rather adventurous one for having gone out in the first place
he is no lazy prince, and in fact works very hard farming lichen, moss, and mushrooms. he is something of a chemist, and has created potions from his crops, some healing, some that can make the user glow like a lanternworm, some that make you immune to poisons
all underelves do their time in the mines, which facilitates the growth of the city as well as the wealth of the king. unbeknownst to most of the citizens of the underdark, these jewels are used to secretly trade with sun children for surface treasures
