who are the misfits?

๐Ÿ’€ Glenn Danzig :

the misfits was formed in Lodi, New Jersey in 1977 by Glenn Anzalone. After graduating high school, he went to art school to become a comic book artist, but, disappointed with his career prospects, he was eventually (fortunately) distracted by punk rock. the original misfits lineup featured him on keyboard, Manny Martinez on drums, and one of his school friends, Diane Dipiazza, on bass.

you are likely familiar with Danzig even if you have never listened to a single misfits album; the song 'mother' hit the top 20 rock charts back in the early 90s and can be heard on the radio in GTA: san andreas. Danzig's voice is iconic, bluesy, and powerful, making him a perfect fit for lead vocals. the larger creative force in the band, he was also responsible for writing the lyrics to most misfits songs.

there are two types of misfits fans in my experience- people that love the band, but hate Danzig (if you fall into this category, you can leave this website and not return now), and those who recognize Danzig as the primary member, without whom no one would remember or give a shit about the misfits. he's a genius, if you disagree, go listen to some michael graves and get outta here

astrologically speaking, Danzig was born June 23, 1955, and is a cancer sun, leo moon. he likes cats, skulls, and Milton. he's into some freaky shit and i can respect that.

๐Ÿ’€ Jerry, Jerry ONLY :

Diane lost interest in playing the bass quickly and was replaced by Jerry Caiafa, a local high schooler who heard the original lineup playing in a nearby garage and immediately went to introduce himself and ask Glenn questions about the band. He was the opposite of Glenn, a football player who was voted โ€œMost Popularโ€- hardly a misfit- but his gregarious personality won Glenn over. Jerry Only was born Jerry Caiafa, into a relatively large family of large boys. he is the eldest.

once the two of them paired up, the real magic got started. the combination of Jerry Only and Glenn Danzig is the elemental alchemy that made the misfits what it is.

he goes by Jerry Only because no one could spell his last name right.

Jerry was born on April 21, 1959, and is a Taurus sun, Libra moon. from i.thehoroscope.co - people with this combination "have an elegance and a magnetism that makes them special and very attractive. But behind their everyday smile, thereโ€™s an unexplainable tension. Giving a lot of importance to socializing, Moon Libras see themselves through the eyes of other people."

๐Ÿ’€ Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein :

Doyle, born Paul Caiafa, is one of the younger brothers of Jerry Only. he is the mostly silent misfit, and spends his time on stage manhandling his guitars (that he built himself in his dad's machine shop - his signature design is the 'Annihilator'), and looking large and menacing.

after kicking Bobby Steele out of the band and being pestered for quite a long time, Glenn finally gave into Jerry's insistence that they let his little brother into the band. Paul Caiafa was still only 16 and could hardly even play guitar, only knowing how to pick the low E and two or so chords, but, as usual, the Misfits settled for what was available. Paul did have one thing on his side: SIZE - i'm talking six foot three inches of pure cut muscle. He was larger than his older brother Jerry and a linebacker on the Lodi High football team. Glenn taught him a few more guitar tricks, redubbed him Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein, and Doyle was reborn as a Misfit, something he takes gravely seriously to this day. The trio started wearing their hair in their faces and dressing like monstrous ghouls on stage, and the image of Glenn between the giant Caiafa brothers became iconic

Doyle's birthday is September 15, 1964. in the Lodi High yearbook, he says that his favorite things are โ€œThe Misfits and snowโ€ (me too, Doyle).

๐Ÿ’€ Googy?? :

one of the OG drummers of the misfits (there were many), Googy is the guy that always looks out of place in photos, being ghostly white, blond, skinny, and just overall not a visual "fit" for the 'fits. Danzig eventually kicked him out of the band for asking for a second cheeseburger at McDonald's.

๐Ÿ’€ Bobby Steele :

original guitar player for the misfits; i feel for this guy because the other members of the band pretty much hated him. they kicked him out as soon as Doyle was able to pound out 3 chords with any efficiency. he's a big fan of the Beatles and once puked on John Lennon's shoes during a drunken night in new york. i'm sure the rest of the band never let him forget it.

๐Ÿ’€ Robo :

a drummer so famously precise he earned the nickname "Robo"; poor guy looked significantly older than the rest of the band and so Jerry and Doyle's mom wouldn't let him stay over at their place while he was temporarily homeless. he ended up living with Danzig in the Anzalone's basement for a while instead. he was probably the best drummer who ever played with the misfits, and i would argue he's the classic 4th member (if there ever was one- don't fucking kill me if you think it's Googy, it's ok to be wrong).

๐Ÿ’€ that guy who played drums for the last concert but got too drunk and had to be thrown off stage :

his name is Brian, he totally blew it.
